Fast Food and Grocery Retailers in Northern Ireland
CADA led a multi-disciplinary team undertaking a detailed geospatial assessment to support the Food Standards Agency (FSA) Northern Ireland. We provided insight into access to fast food outlets and grocery retailers, including proximity to secondary schools and links to local deprivation.
The Ambition
FSA NI needed robust, accessible evidence on food outlet availability near schools and potential inequality patterns, drawing together multiple fragmented datasets into a single analysis.
CADA provided strong collaboration with the dietary health and policy teams to capture requirements, understand constraints, and develop the actionable insight.
How We Added Value
- Identified additional evidence opportunities and constraints beyond the original scope.
- Delivered technical reporting and recommendations spanning policy, planning, and Takeaway Management Zones.
- Created an online viewer to make insights easier for public and stakeholder use.
Strategic Delivery Phases
Identification
Scoped and integrated multiple geospatial and contextual datasets relevant to food outlet access.
Planning
Assessed retailer patterns around secondary schools and investigated trends against local deprivation indicators.
Delivery
Produced technical outputs plus public-facing communication assets to broaden accessibility of findings.
Proof of Concept
Created an online viewer to make insights easier for public and stakeholder use.
Outcome
- Delivered an academic report in collaboration with the FSA Nutrition team.
- Produced a public-facing infographic summary to communicate key findings clearly.
- Built a web-based viewer enabling stakeholders to explore results and implications interactively.
